Pi KYC Questions And Answers

 KYC - Nov 14th, 2021

100k KYC slots are generated (given) by CT to test the system for future mass KYC. Every problem that might occur now is a direct consequence of this test. To fix it for the future.

Don't be discouraged if you don't pass now because every single natural person will pass once the Mainnet comes operational.

Only bots, dual accounts, and mining farms will be left behind.

The Core Team is developing a KYC solution that will be available before the Mainnet and accept different kinds of government-issued IDs to provide as many Pioneers the opportunity to KYC. Our KYC solution involves machine (image processing and machine learning) and human work (crowdsourcing) to help verify identity. More details will come later.

FEATURE - Name update “appeal” for minor corrections- There will be an in-app feature to allow a Pioneer to request an appeal of the name update information, where the Pioneer can document the correct information about the name on their identification document and explain the mistake that was made. A complete name change will not be allowed, and only minor corrections may be acceptable. An appeal will need to be processed, and it can be accepted or rejected.

☑️ KYC - preparation

In the Pi KYC process, you must upload a picture of your ID and take a live selfie. To prepare, you can check the below.

✅ Have your valid government-issued ID at hand. Passports, National ID cards, and driver's licenses are standard IDs; a complete list per country is in development.

✅ Make sure you have your Pi Network app and Pi Browser app on a mobile device with a working camera

✅ Download the Pi Browser app if you don't have it yet OR make sure your PI Browser is updated to the latest version (1.6 for iOS or 1.6.1 on Android)

✅ Allow the Pi Browser app to access your camera: on your phone, go to Settings > Pi Browser > Camera (allow)

✅ When you start the KYC process, make sure you are in a well-lit area, and you have a stable internet connection

Please note: for KYC, your Pi account name must match your name on your ID. New Pioneers have a 14-day counter to correct their name at the bottom of the Pi app home screen. After 14 days, only minor corrections are possible via the name appeal feature in your Profile.

๐Ÿ“Œ Mainnet Roadmap - KYC Verification and Mainnet Balance Transfer

Dec 16, 2021, in-app announcement

*Please find below the paragraph about KYC Verification and Mainnet Balance Transfer in the Roadmap Draft December 2021

KYC Verification and Mainnet Balance Transfer

“Know Your Customer/Client” (KYC) is a process that verifies identification to distinguish genuine accounts from fake ones. The vision of Pi Network is to build an inclusive and the most widely distributed token and ecosystem for all Pioneers. The mining mechanism of Pi Network is social network-based, and the mining rate has halved 5 times so far as the social network size grew to over 1K, 10K, 100K, 1M, and 10M engaged members. Therefore, Pi has a strict policy of one account per person. This requires a high degree of accuracy to establish that members in the network are genuine human beings, preventing individuals from being able to unfairly hoard Pi by creating fake accounts. Pioneers’ KYC results will depend on identity verification, their name matching with the Pi account, and screening against the government sanction list. Thus, KYC helps ensure the network's true humanness and compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and anti-terrorism regulations.

As communicated at the network's founding, fake Pi accounts and scripted mining are strictly prohibited to ensure true humanness. These accounts will be disabled and unable to migrate to Mainnet. Over the past three years, multiple technical mechanisms have been implemented to identify bots and fake accounts. For the accounts identified as highly likely fake by Pi’s algorithm, the weight is on these accounts to prove otherwise. These identified fake accounts will either be disabled or go through a much more rigorous review and appeal process. The allocation of KYC slots will be prioritized for accounts with a high likelihood of being actual human holders.

Only the accounts with verified identities will be allowed to transition to Mainnet, and only the Pi balances attributable to identity-verified accounts will be transferred to the Mainnet balance. When a Pioneer and their referral team and security circle members pass, the KYC determines if and when, and to what extent, a Pioneer can transfer their balances. Below is a hypothetical example to illustrate how the KYC verification of Pioneers affects their balances in migration to the Mainnet.
